Official API, Ofox,
or an OpenRouter-style aggregator
For developers already calling more than one model: when one account is the point, and when you should stay with the lab. Fees and compatibility follow each provider’s current page. Nothing here is “always cheaper.”
The extra $3 on a referred user’s first top-up is Ofox’s credit. Ofox pays it. It is not taken from commission, and this site does not pay it. Reviewed 2026-10-29: Ofox Partner.
Side by side
| Criterion | Official lab API | Ofox | OpenRouter (as the example) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-model convenience | A separate account, key and invoice per lab. Native features and the lab’s own support are the straightforward path. | Ofox says one key reaches GPT, Claude, Gemini and 100+ models. That is their product copy. Whether a model is in the unauthenticated public catalog is a property of that response, not of the marketing page. | Their pricing page says Standard can reach a large catalog (the page said 500+ models). Use their model list. Do not copy that count onto Ofox. |
| Billing | The lab’s list price. Enterprise discounts, batch and cache are separate questions. There is no reseller platform fee, and you administer several invoices. | Ofox’s enterprise page and changelog say billing follows provider list price and that the platform fee is 0%. The changelog also describes monthly spend credits (the top published tier is 7%). Those are Ofox’s rules, not a discount we have been granted and not our guarantee. | Pricing page as read on 2026-10-29: Free platform fee listed as N/A, Standard 5.5%, Business 8%, Enterprise “fee discounts available.” That is their published schedule, not an invoice we paid. It can change. |
| Protocols | Each lab ships its own native API. | Ofox docs list an OpenAI-compatible surface (Chat Completions / Responses), native Anthropic Messages, and native Gemini generateContent. A model card has to show the endpoint you need. We have not certified your client. | Aggregators in this category are often OpenAI-compatible first. Native Anthropic or Gemini support is a per-vendor doc check. We have not certified it. |
| Cursor, directly | Cursor can store keys for some official providers. Tab and similar features may still use Cursor’s own models. | Ofox’s compatibility note, updated 2026-10-16, says a direct Cursor connection is not suitable. Tab, Background Agent and Auto do not follow a custom provider. Their suggestion is Codex CLI or Claude Code in Cursor’s terminal. Those two clients are still unverified on this site. | Do not assume another aggregator works inside Cursor. Read the current Cursor docs and that aggregator’s own notice. |
The public-catalog observation lives in ofox-public-prices.json. If that file does not load, this page does not state a model count or an Ofox price.
When not to use an aggregator
You use one model
The lab’s account is simpler, and an enterprise discount may be better. An aggregator earns its place when several models share one bill.
You need Cursor Tab, Agent or Auto
Ofox already says those features do not follow a custom API. Switching aggregators does not add Cursor’s official features back.
Compliance wants the lab’s signature
If the DPA, data residency or the invoice has to be with the model vendor, a reseller’s terms may not be enough. Read the documents before you add credit.
The tool has not run on your machine
Codex CLI and Claude Code are unverified here. tests/ofox_smoke.py has no recorded pass in this repo, and it does not launch either client.
The sticker and the checkout disagree
A claimed 0% fee, credit or bonus is only as real as the rule on the checkout you are looking at. Do not budget from a marketing page that disagrees with it.
You are treating a chat plan as an API
A ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor subscription is usually not third-party API credit. Buying API credit does not turn on those subscriptions.
